Distribution

1. Please pack your books in a sturdy carton -- pack them tightly, stacked like bricks at both ends of the carton, and fill remaining space with newspaper or small paperbacks. Please tape the carton shut.

2. Address your carton(s) to:

Bridge to Asia
Foreign Trade Services
Pier 23, Embarcadero
San Francisco CA 94111

or

Bridge to Asia
Follett Higher Education Group
2211 West Street
River Grove, IL 60171-1800

(The facility at Cypress, California, is closed.)

3. Ship your cartons by UPS, DHL or FedEx -- or by USPS (use Media Mail Rate or Library Mail Rate).

4. After you have shipped your books, please notify us by email (nxliu@pacbell.net) or phone (415-678-2990), and tell us your postal address. We will send you a letter of thanks and an IRS form for claiming a tax benefit.

Your out-of-pocket expenses (packing materials, shipping costs) are tax deductible together with the value of your books.

We appreciate the hard work of packing, lifting, and mailing books and magazines, and regret all the more that we cannot reimburse you for shipping or mailing costs.

Media Mail rate

You are permitted to use Media Mail Rate, formerly known as Special Standard Mail. As of January 2008, this rate is approximately US$18.79 per 50 pounds, for materials such as the following:

"books (at least 8 pages),...printed music, printed test materials, sound recordings, play scripts, printed educational charts, loose-leaf pages and binders consisting of medical information, and computer-readable media." (USPS Quick Service Guide 730-Package Services-Media Mail)

You may need to cite this regulation at your Post Office if the clerk questions your use of the rate. You can print an overview of the Media Mail Regulation from the USPS Web site.

Library Mail rate

You are permitted to use the economical Library Mail Rate to send your materials to Bridge to Asia. As of January 2008, this rate is approximately US$17.70 per 50 pounds. Eligible materials include:

"books, recordings, educational and museum materials...(which) may be sent to, from, or between...a nonprofit organization (such as Bridge to Asia)...and an individual who has no financial interest in the sale, promotion, or distribution of the materials." (USPS Quick Service Guide 740-Package Services-Library Mail)

Again, you may need to cite this regulation at your local Post Office, should they question your use of the rate. You can print an overview of the Library Mail Rate regulation from the United States Postal Service Web site.
