1/98 issue mentioning Bridge to Asia
In January 1998, the National Geographic published a notice about the need for magazines in developing countries. The response was immediate: 2,000 readers sent sets of the Geographic to us.

Brownie Troop 1060 in Bellevue, Washington responded with the most remarkable donation of all, 30,000 Geographics. Boy Scouts followed suit. In July, the Geographic published a second notice featuring Troop 1060 which inspired more readers to give.

Troop 1060, this time working with other Brownie troops in the area, did it again in November of 1999, gathering 60,000 National Geographics from Seattle-area residents.

Readers continue to ask if we are accepting Geographics. Yes, we certainly are. (The shipping address has changed to Bridge to Asia, Foreign Trade Services, Pier 23, San Francisco CA 94111).

We also need other journals and magazines with good photography, good writing, and intelligent reporting, including the Atlantic, Scientific American, Smithsonian, New Mexico Magazine, Harper's, UtneReader, New Yorker, Ms., Wilson Quarterly, and many more.
