Information Transfer Station (ITS)

Northwest China TeleHealth Service (NCTS)

European Knowledge Commons

A Knowledge Port contains core knowledge in a subject, and hosts it at one location. A Port includes:
  • core principles
  • best practices
  • "must reads"
  • training courses
  • research
  • dynamic services (forums, current awareness, document-delivery)
The Port is an evolutionary step beyond an Information-transfer Station. It is staffed by information specialists and serves as a virtual reference desk, but all of its resources are at one site.

The Port also is a step beyond networks and institutions. It can be reached through the Internet, but its contents are not distributed. And it can be located at an institution like a university, but access to the public is free.
