Distribution

China's universities, expected to train the new generations who will drive the modernization of the country, are under enormous stress. There is a population explosion of students, a shortfall of faculty, and a scarcity of knowledge from the West.

Books are not the only resources needed, but they can be provided in the near term and begin to produce benefits almost immediately.

To determine priorities for subjects and fields (science and engineering often top the list), we coordinate with the Ministry of Education.

To mobilize donations, we use several strategies:

  • appeals through mass mailings and the Internet
  • appeals to readerships of academic and professional publications
  • book drives on college campuses and among college stores
  • book drives in Northern and Southern California and the Midwest
  • local collection at the donor's location, when quantities justify costs
Finally, to deliver books, we use a distribution network that reaches 1000 universities from Shanghai to Tibet.
